Apps for Parents, Families, and Kids
In this section, we hope to recommend various Apps that you may use to guide you through parenthood. We will continue to update this list, and hope to get some valuable input and suggestions from our parents. Please feel free to recommend and share apps that have been helpful for you - these may be seen in the “Suggested Apps From Other Parents” Section.
FIRST OF ALL:
One of the most important things you can do is MAKE AN ONGOING DOCUMENT OF YOUR CHILD’S HEALTH SUMMARY. You can make a Google Doc or Apple Pages Document that you can continually update and add to. This way you can always access this information if you are ever out of town, at the emergency room, or if school/camp needs to know your child’s immunization status. And, all of this can be available to you on your mobile device no matter where you are! This will be an invaluable tool for you - believe me!

Suggested Apps for New Parents
By Dr McCabe
Baby Connect ($4.99) - good app for feeding tracking
Allows parents to easily track information such as feedings, diapers, naps, milestones, mood, pumpings, medicines, vaccines and growth. Breastfeeding mothers can use a timer to easily record the time and breast for each feeding. Parents can compare with the previous day and previous week averages, and view the data on graphs to identify trends. Data automatically syncs on multiple devices. Alarms can be set to notify when it’s time for the next feeding or diaper change or medicine dose, etc. Parents can also enter free form notes.
iBaby Feed Timer ($4.99) - good app for feeding tracking
Designed for breastfeeding mothers to track breastfeeds (a timer and pause button to record which side and for how long), bottle feeds, breast pumps, diapers, sleep, solid food, weight, and length. Parents can also set reminders and enter notes. Analyzes data and shows daily, weekly, and monthly averages. Data can be plotted on graphs to easily see trends, and data can sync on multiple devices.
Baby Bundle (free) - good free app for all around baby tracking
Baby Bundle also tracks things like feedings, diapers, sleep, vaccines and growth. Besides tracking, it gives a guide on what to expect at your next pediatrician’s appointment, acts as a rudimentary baby book, and provides a health reference and baby care guide. Parents can check off the milestones and the day it happened - and add it (theoretically) to a bound baby book later. It was developed in partnership with a pediatrician and mom, so the health reference and baby care guides can be trusted.
Baby Sprout - ($4.99) good pay app for all around baby tracking
Baby Sprout also has all of the tracking tools and planners, but is especially good for milestones and development. Parents can record milestones, memories, photos, and captions. Monthly updates on developmental milestones enable parents to see how their child is faring. A plentiful supply of food tracking allows parents to easily see how solids are going. A medical record tool allows parents to keep track of sick and healthy check-ups.
WebMD Baby (free) - good app for medical advice
WebMD Baby offers medical advice tailored to a baby’s specific age. It has hundreds of articles, tips, and videos on baby and toddler care, illnesses and emergencies, tips for mom, tips for dad, parenting tips, milestones, vaccines, and doctor visits. It offers weekly content packages suited to a baby’s current age. It also allows parents to track sleep, diapers growth, feedings, and milestones.
Baby Shusher (free)
This app creates the rhythmic shushing noise that helps crying babies relax and potentially fall asleep. It comes with a timer and a sound equalizer, which allows the volume to increase if a baby starts to cry.
Suggested Apps for All Parents
Car Seat Check ($1.99)
This app allows parents to quickly learn what car seat is right for their child based on age, weight, and height. Installation videos, audio clips, and articles helps ensure that the car seat is used correctly.
Suggested Apps for Media Use
Common Sense Media / Kids Media (free)
This is a great app and website www.Commonsensemedia.org that reviews movies, TV shows, books, games, etc for kids. The recommendations are based on media type and age! Go to the website for greater info and to get more info - you’ll get lost looking through this website. Disclaimer - I’m not exactly sure who and how they really rate things, however, it looks like they have a reputable board that makes these suggestions.
