2-8-12 Update on MCV-4, PCV-13, and Vitamin D daily intake
MCV-4 (Meningococcal Vaccine - to prevent meningitis and other infections caused by meningoccus): For the past 10 years, children get their first vaccine to prevent Menningococcus infecton around age 11-12 years of age. NEW recommendations from ACIP, CDC and AAP include a booster dose after age 16 y. Colleges are now asking for these booster dose dates too. No need for an extra appointment for most children unless you have medical form due soon. We will update you at the next routine visit.
PCV-13 (Pneumococal Vaccine - to prevent infections caused by pneumococcus including: meningitis, some ear infections, blood infections): The recommendations call for a dose of PCV13 to be given at 2, 4, 6 and 12 through 18 months of age. In addition, all children 14 through 59 months of age who have received an age-appropriate series of PCV7 should be given a single supplemental dose of PCV13 since they remain at risk for IPD(Invasive Pneumococcal Disease) caused by the six additional serotypes unique to PCV13.

Physician Changes at Streeterville
As of September 12, Nisha Kakodkar (pronounced ca-CODE-car) joined us. Nisha’s bio is available, click here. She comes to us after being certified as a general pediatrician and then receiving additional training in pediatric Hemotology and Oncology. She has served as a specialist in pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Rush Hospital most recently. She wants to return to her passion of general care and we look forward to you meeting her. We believe that you will fall in love with her kind and gentle approach, just as we have!
Because of the transitions with Dr. Starr and the addition of Dr. Kakodkar, our office schedules will be changing slightly:
Dr. Barrows will no longer have Wednesdays off after 28 years! He will now be in Monday-Thursday. There will be some changes in schedules to accommodate other doctor’s vacation days so he may have some Fridays occasionally.
Dr. Brown will continue his schedule of Monday, Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday and Friday with his usual day off of Thursday.
Dr.Starr will shift slightly to now be in on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Dr. Starr will be off on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Dr. Kakodkar will be in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and will fill in on Tuesdays and Thursdays occasionally when one of the other doctors is out of the office.
Welcome to our Website
If you're a new patient or prospective patient, we hope that our website helps to give you a good insight as to how our practice works. We like to inform our patients as much as possible during our visits, but we also use information on our website to supplement and back-up what we've discussed.
Use the toolbar at the right of each page to negotiate through our website. For various health related issues, we have many articles for different ages, conditions, seasonal information, and we've also included various weblinks that you may find helpful.
For "nuts and bolts" of how our practice runs, please go to the Practice Info section. Here you can find information about making appointments, getting referrals, office hours, emergency coverage, doctor, billing, and other helpful information.
You may want to read the appropriate section of the "Growth and Development" section before you come in for your child's visit. Re-reading it after the visit will also help to refresh many of the issues that were talked about during the visit.
New articles will appear with brown color font to find them more easily.
