RSV "Vaccine"

RSV "VACCINE" IS IN!
We will also have the RSV injection (antibody - not a vaccine) in the near future. This is for children less than 8 months of age only. If you want to get the vaccine for your child before he/she turns 8 months, be sure to follow our website for an announcement as to when it will be available. If your child will turn 8 months soon, try to get in as soon as it is available because once your child turns 8 months, we will be unable to give it to your child.

Good Article on "Perfectionism"
posted 4/4/24 by Dr. Brown
We all want our children to be successful in life, but with all the pressures put on children and students, things may backfire and cause undue anxiety in children. The American Academy of Pediatrics has put out a nice article about avoiding the Pitfalls of Perfectionism.
A nice statement taken from the article is: instead of saying, "I just expect you to do your best," say something like: "All I expect is for you to put in a good effort. I care less about your grades and more about the fact that you are learning".
Here is a link to the that article:

In Case You Missed It:
Both Doctor Brown and Doctor Starr are on the list!!
Thanks to all the patients and fellow physicians who have nominated and supported us all these years!
Best Wishes to Dr McCabe

Unfortunately, Dr. McCabe will be leaving the Streeterville Pediatrics family in December. Her commute has been unbearable and she will be finding a practice that is closer to home so that she may spend more time with her family.
I know that many of her patients will miss her, and we will miss her at Streeterville. In the meantime, Dr. Starr and Dr. Brown will be stepping up their presence in the office to maintain continued care for her patients. We are also looking for someone to join the Streeterville Family to “fill her shoes.”
We wish her the best! (see her note below)

To My Patients and Families:
When I started at Streeterville Pediatrics in 2012, I was a relatively fresh pediatrician who lived in Chicago with her new husband and spent her weekends running. Eleven years and countless patient visits later, I now live in the North Shore with my husband and three young children. I still spend my weekends running, but now more running the kids to their different activities than for enjoyment. Becoming part of the Streeterville Family has been a dream come true, but it is time for me to leave to spend more time with my own family. During these eleven years I got to work with the most amazing staff, children, and parents / guardians. Thank you for inviting me into your lives and trusting me with your most precious gifts - your children. I have cherished becoming part of your families, helping you through difficult times (even if in the smallest of ways), and celebrating the good. I hope you have learned a fraction from me what I have learned from you. I will never forget holding so many of your babies in my arms just hours after they were born. I will miss watching these babies grow into wonderful young adults, and witnessing your pride as they do so. I’ll even miss the screaming toddlers and sleep deprived parents insisting that something must be wrong with their children. All of these memories will hold a special place in my heart as I start my new venture - I will be practicing concierge pediatrics in the North Shore. My favorite part of pediatrics is the relationships, and I would love to continue our relationship. My work email address is [email protected]. Please send photos and updates of your families (but no medical questions, please)! If you would like to be part of my new practice, please email me. Thank you again for all the smiles, tears, advice, love, and most of all allowing me to be part of your family.

Interested In Becoming A Patient At Streeterville Pediatrics?
Welcome to Streeterville Pediatrics! We've been in the neighborhood known as "Streeterville" since the 1920's. Our practice still values the personal and individual care proposed by Dr Julius Hess when the practice was started in 1901.
Bigger is not Better! We are still a small and personal practice, and believe that having a close relationship with new parents is most beneficial as they start their family. Located within blocks of the hospitals we attend (Lurie Children's and Northwestern / Prentice Women's Hospital) we are readily able to see your newborn or (if need be) hospitalized child. We also have staff privileges at the 3 biggest pediatric hospitals in Chicago, giving our patients access to some of the most distinguished specialists in the area. A trusted practice, we take care of families from 8 of the busiest obstetrical practices at Northwestern/Prentice. We appreciate this endorsement of our practice from so many obstetricians that have the option to take their children to other pediatric offices.
If you're expecting and would like to schedule a "prenatal visit" (no charge) to meet the doctors and see the office, please call us. Click on Prenatal Visits for more info about setting up a time.

Visits to our Office and TeleMed
If you are concerned about your child but can't make it into the office, we can offer you a TeleMedicine visit. Of course, its always better to talk to and examine your child in person, but this is a nice alternative if you can't make it in.
To schedule a telemedicine visit, you must have a smart phone, tablet (I-Pad, etc), or computer with audio and video. Please call the office and we can send you an email with instructions and a link to communicate with the doctor. During this emergency time, the government has instructed insurance companies to cover these telemed services.
Please note that its still very important that your child receives his or her well child visits to check their growth parameters, development, and administer protective immunizations. We are concerned about your family's health and have taken steps to minimize any risks at the office. We reserve the early part of the day to see well children so there is no chance for contact with sick patients. To diminish patients coming in contact with each other, we make efforts to expeditiously get patients into their very own examination room upon arrival.
